2008 Sigma Kappa National Convention
The 83rd Sigma Kappa National Convention was held June 25th-29th at the Renaissance Esmeralda Resort in Indian Wells, CA. Stephanie Jones, a Xi Alumnae, attended the convention on behalf of the GKC chapter as a delegate. Highlights from the convention include receiving Honorable Mention awards for both the Alumnae Panhellenic Award and the Ida Fuller Pierce Award for the most improved alumnae chapter in a college community. The GKC Alumnae Chapter was also selected as a pilot chapter for the UltraViolet Campaign, which will be replacing lollipop sales to raise money for Alzheimer research. Several issues were voted on during the formal business meetings, including designating the wild purple violet as our sorority flower and creating a new national office, Vice President of Extension, who will be responsible for overseeing development of new Sigma Kappa colonies. The Greater Kansas City Sigma Kappa Alumnae Chapter was acknowledged at this years walk with a special award for their continued support of this event.
